Buy Car Insurance - A Review

Where should you buy car insurance online in the UK?

Many people see this as a relatively simple question to which there's an obvious answer. And their answer, which they confidently state, is to use a price comparison site. As the majority of people use a service of that type nowadays to buy car insurance, they must be right, aren't they?

Well, we believe that the arguments for the routine use of a price comparison site need to be challenged. These arguments go something like this:

With a price comparison site you need to fill in just one form to then compare loads of prices from numerous car insurance providers. There is no other way to compare so many quotes with such power and ease. If you want to save money, perhaps more than a hundred pounds on your renewal quote, such services stand alone in making it easy for you to do so. Even if you're worried about what you're getting in terms of policy features, they may flag up those policies that best match your requirements.

Sounds good, doesn't it? But there's a problem. At least at the present time, they don't do the last job - that is, inform you about policy features - well enough for a properly informed choice. As result, if you're not to buy car insurance more or less blind to what you're getting, you are obliged to do your own research to find out exactly what you are buying. This, if done properly, can involve checking out the insurance company website rather than relying on highly summarised information on the price comparison site.

And therein lies the problem as, if what price comparison sites do best is to help you to find the very cheap, very no frills quotes, their weakness is their failure to quickly help you to buy car insurance further up the quality spectrum. In short, for the kind of cover that's desirable should a claim be needed, they make it hard to dissect out such a policy from the 'noise' of hundreds of other quotes that, very often, are associated with very limited cover if they feature high up the (low) price list.

That's why it's a good idea to go where quality control is much easier. But where is that? The answer may seem wrong to many but we will explain why it's a good choice. The answer is to go direct to a leading car insurance provider. They invariably provide excellent cover as standard while prices are always competitive when compared with other like policies. The market is too competitive for anything else to be the case. Because these big companies do the price watching, you don't have to. Thus by going direct to the big players you automatically build in quality and economy.

If this sounds unconvincing, it's worth reminding yourself that price comparison sites compare a vast range of policies and therefore they generate a vast range of prices. If they only compared like policies, pricing would be - within a few pounds - boringly uniform.

We think it's time for the UK to rethink it's routine use of price comparison sites.

Whatever you decide to do yourself, be it use a comparison system or not, you can compare car insurance easily with this site. Just make sure that you take the time to know what your policy includes and excludes and that you are happy with any limitations before you buy.
